Introduction
This
home-stay program is developed for dual
purposes. It gives you the opportunity to experience the Thai culture
in an authentic and inexpensive way.
You can learn about the traditional life of the Lua
people, you can experience English teaching and you can
learn about farming and about the nature and its inhabitants
in Chiang Dao. The local people benefit as their children are
being taught English, which gives them good opportunities
for future jobs. Besides that, they can use your help with
farming and general house mactivities.
About the area
Ban Nong Kiew is a small Lua -Lawa village about 55 family
locate in the district of Chiang Dao . It is located on the
edge of the Chiang Mai, 45 kilometers away from Chiang Dao District and 75
the city Chiang Mai. For a cost of living, the local people farmer;
they do hand weaving and grow rice and chili on the farmlands.
The Lua -Lawa villages have been built from natural materials
only. Country life in Ban Nong Kiew is somehow blessed with a
wonderful balance of nature. The mountainous area is rich of
streams, rivers, rice fields, fruit orchards and vegetable
gardens. Ban Nong Kiew village basically
consists of a number of small groups of houses
(villages) with farmlands in between. There is always a Lahu
hill tribe village also Kachins Hilltribe village
nearby and at the center of each village you
will find a Christian Churt. Christian still plays a big roll
in the every Sunday life of the Lua -Lawa people.
Chiang Dao is located near the North of Chiang Mai . It is
one of the richest forests of the country. The forestis a
home for many wild animals ,

volunteers can be learn about the ways of life of Lua -Lawa
hilltribe and traditional of village For preserve the
environment and nature where are clean and pure.
Promotion about eco-tourism (home stay)
This project can be support the education for
the children in the remote area.
The result :
The volunteers pr visitors will know about ecology system
between human and nature.
The volunteers will become a special teacher
for children in the Lua -Lawa hilltribe village and can be
exchange culture and traditional between local
teachers and the volunteers .
For help people in the village about income,
there will have income from eco-tourism.
Program At Chiang Dao Chiang Mai , you will learn about the ethnic
minority groups that inhabit the area as well
as the social and political situation in Burma.
You'll learn about the history of the Lua -Lawa people, about their customs and religion and about the role
that tourism plays in their current lives. On
a day-to-day base, you are expected to teach the local
children English and to help out with farming and home
activities. As most children do not speak any English yet,
you have to be a little creative with teaching methods (or
you must already speak the Thai language!). Evening time and
weekends can be spent freely.
You can stay at the village, visit the city Chiang Dao Chiang Mai
or explore the beautiful area around the district Chiang Dao Some
of the highlights here are caves, gorgeous tempels and the
beautiful Ban Nong Kiew . We can
arrange local guides to join you on these nature trips. At
the village, you can experience
the warmth and hospitality of the local people, as you
become part of the extended family with whom you live. The
local people will also help you to master the basics of the
Thai language.
Itinerary:
Day
1
7.30am - 8.00am
Breakfast at Chiang Dao Nest (only included for trekkers
departing from Ban Nong Kiew)
10am Leave
Chiang Dao Nest . Drive for about 30 mins to the starting
point, hike for 2 hours uphill to Gu Jay Dee, followed by a
further 3 hr uphill hike to Doi Sam Phi Nong (Three Brothers
Mountains). Stop for a well deserved lunch before continuing
on to Ang Salung is a small campsite for the night. (gets
quite a few Thai people on Thai holidays and at weekends -
on occasions can be quite a party! other occasions there is
no -one around at all - it is a largish area) At about
5pm we will walk
up to the summit for what can be a stunning sunset then back
down for dinner. Sleep overnight in tents.
Day 2
Up at 5am to walk to
the summit to (hopefully) view the sunrise then back down to
Ang Salung for breakfast. 8am leave to walk back down to the
same place where you started walking on day 1 and driveback
down to Chiang Dao Nest.
(takes from 4 to 6 hrs, depending on the pace of the group).
